Getting across town to Caffeine and Octane’s Lanier raceway is a task in itself for us, as we are OTP NW, but I am glad to finally have made it for an event. It had been since, at the latest, 2012 since we had made it to an event hosted at the track, and back then we made it to a drift event or two, at most. At the onset, the track still feels wildly the same despite the ownership change, but it is gratifying to see every weekend hosting multiple events, bringing folks out for a variety of motorsport fun. Judging solely on seeing posts from the weekend, it seems they have found a good stride offering drifting, downforce battles, timed laps as well as private rentals, car shows and events, and they have brought life back to the track.
We didn’t stay too long for the event, as we had already spent most of our day at Road Atlanta, and I’d had a private client shoot that morning, but we did get to catch at least a few rounds of most folks as they gave the course their best, getting set up for an evening of driving and adjusting their runs. The event seems to really be best suited for those who understand car control on some level already, or who have an instructor that can ride along with them to help them grow. That said, I think nearly anyone could get out and have a good time.
The track boasts plentiful parking, and there are concessions available. The event is family friendly, so if you’re looking for something to do near the area, check the events calendar for the track and pop by for an evening of supporting some car folks doing car folks things.
