So yes, usually my posts are close to in order by the date when they happened. Sometimes though, life happens and I have to make choices and delaying my photos from the Mitty seemed smarter than delaying other events. That all said, how cool is it getting to see cars on track from decades past? I was asked to join some friends to help out talking with folks at their booth on the Sunday of the Mitty, and due to the foot traffic being slow, I was able to spend a lot of my time shooting instead. (Thanks to Holly and Paul of Traction Insurance for the opportunity!)

I wasn’t sure what to expect, I’d always heard how busy and fun the Mitty was, and maybe the busy part applies to Saturday, but Sunday was a pretty quiet day for spectators, all things considered. I was able to shoot from multiple spots of the track and got to enjoy three different races scheduled for the day, and the wait at the vendors for food and drinks was nearly non-existent. As I’m learning more about motorsports photography for cars doing something other than sliding around and kicking up tire smoke I find myself falling in love with all the new things to learn and all the new processes to use. I managed to challenge myself in some new ways shooting this event and I’m smitten with the work I was able to create.

I can’t say I feel we had the full Mitty experience, given how quiet the day was but it was still a fantastic time at the track and we have agreed that next year we would absolutely like to return. If you’re a consistent Mitty goer, I’d love to hear your thoughts on Saturday vs Sunday and what you like best about the event!
