This meet was co-hosted by lots of groups and spaces, but the all women group Tuned Ladies being involved was enough reason for me to show up. It’s rare the group is able to make a weeknight meet on this side of the city, so when a lot of them said they’d be there I made sure to come hang out for a bit.

I had never been to an anonymous meet, nor any meets the other co-hosts had thrown (Stealth, M Addicts, Eurofed), so I wasn’t sure what to expect other than lots of euro cars based on the co-hosts listed. The meet had lots of BMWs, a few Porsches and VWs, then a good handful of bikes, JDM cars and a few examples of American muscle. There was a DJ booth on the patio of Grand Slam and folks were mostly, initially, respecting the rules of only subtle revving, no burnouts and no hooning. There did seem to be some confusion regarding where to park, but my hunch is this happened due to more folks showing up than anticipated- though this did lead to other businesses having to ask folks to move their cars.

As the meet filled in the folks leaving did seem to feel inclined to immediately show off as they accelerated down the very busy road Grand Slam sits on. While this may not be a concern for others, and maybe it’s just that I’m too old for it, I feel this brings a negative attention to the group, though I was happy to see the police did not need to intervene or shut down the meet. That said, you’re unlikely to see me drawing that kind of eye to myself and risking the experience for everyone else involved- I would hate to see a good event get asked to leave because someone wrecked or caused too much of a scene.

On a different note, the pizza at Grand Slam is fantastic. I was happy to see the selection of Jamaican flavors and imported sodas and while they were extremely busy, the wait wasn’t extensive, the pizza was hot and fresh and we had space to sit outside at the back of the patio. I would recommend trying a cola or cream soda while you await your pie, and if you wind up at the restaurant on a busy meet night, remember they’re a small crew and the pie is worth the wait. As the sun set and the meet began to quiet down I set back out to snap some photos and have some conversations with friends. I’m not sure if this is a meet we will hit up again, but if this is your vibe it is a good time. I can absolutely say we will be going back to Grand Slam though.
