If you’ve paid attention to the local scene as a Skyline enthusiast, you’ve likely seen the name Speedgate. While they aren’t just for Skylines or Nissan or even just the broad banner of import, they have a reputation brewing in those communities. While Speedgate hosts many events under their own banner ranging from the group drives to the Skyline Invitational, this event is branded separately as Locals and Legends, a week night get together every Thursday at Sake in Roswell. The same parking lot hosts Worship the first Sunday of every month and the businesses and general shoppers never seem to mind the presence as long as it’s not disruptive.
This was my first time making it to one of these, but I will say this is another weekday meet that starts with good dinner options built in. We tried Sake for the first time, and like a lot of Sushi and Japanese cuisine, it was a little on the pricier side for a weeknight meal, but it was absolutely fantastic. If that’s not your speed the parking lot boasts other options ranging from grab and go quick casual to ice cream and many options between. If you get there early, like we did, you can grab your food while the parking lot fills in, tossing you right into the heart of the meet as you wrap up dinner.
Locals and Legends hasn’t always been at this location, seemingly moving around in search of the right space- accommodating food options, welcoming of the group, space to grow and not over used, which this space currently provides. The meet was smaller than I’ve seen photos and videos of in the past, but it was still a good time seeing some familiar faces while meeting new folks. The group seems welcoming to cars of all types, though there was a heavy leaning towards imported makes this go around.
Like most meets in the area, there is a general expectation that you behave appropriately, and I was very happy to see some behavior that might lead to a negative reputation get quickly shut down. Many folks forget we are ambassadors for the community when we are gathering in public spaces, and there is enough to battle already regarding the stigma associated with being a car person, a gear head, or whatever it is you desire to call yourself.
We got to catch some lovely sunset clouds as the meet continued on and folks came and went, and we left very satisfied with the event and our meal at the host restaurant. If you’re in the Roswell area on a Thursday night, or are willing to make the drive, we recommend checking the meet out. Locals and Legends is hosted every Thursday 7-9p at Sake, located on Woodstock Rd. The event has an Instagram page that is fairly active, and info is often cross-shared via Speedgate should you ever want to double check the details or give them a follow.
And now, the reason we’re all really here anyway. Photos.
